Christmas Tree Pizza Base Recipe: A Fun, Festive, and Healthy Treat for Kids

This Christmas, bring festive fun into your kitchen with these delightful  Christmas Tree Pizza Bases ! Made with wholesome ingredients like sweet potato, these pizza bases are a healthier alternative to traditional dough, perfect for making holiday meals both nutritious and entertaining for kids. These mini pizza trees are not only tasty but also make a fun, hands-on activity that little ones will love helping with from start to finish.

Sweet potatoes make an ideal pizza base because they’re naturally rich in fibre, vitamins A and C, and antioxidants, supporting kids’ immune systems and keeping them satisfied. Unlike traditional pizza bases, which are often made with refined flours, sweet potatoes provide slow-releasing energy and essential nutrients to fuel active kids through their day. Plus, their subtle sweetness pairs perfectly with savory toppings, creating a delicious and balanced meal or snack.

Ingredients - For the Sweet Potato Christmas Tree Pizza Base

  • 500g of mashed sweet potato
  • 1 medium egg
  • 100g of rice or almond flour
  • 30g of arrowroot flour
  • 1 tsp of basil
  • 1 tsp of oregano
  • 1 tbsp of olive oil
  • 1 tsp white vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp of salt (optional)

Directions

Step 1

To begin making your Christmas tree pizza bases, you will need to preheat oven to 200°C. Pierce the sweet potatoes with a fork multiple times and bake for 50 minutes. Alternatively microwave for six minutes, turning the sweet potato onto the other side half way through.

Step 2

Cut open the cooked sweet potatoes and scoop the insides into a bowl. Mash well with a potato masher or put the sweet potato through a potato ricer until smooth.

Step 3

Add the egg, almond flour, arrowroot flour, salt, dried basil, dried oregano, olive oil, and vinegar to the mashed sweet potato. Mix until all ingredients are combined, then gently knead the mixture into a soft dough.

Step 4

Roll the dough out on a floured surface to about 1 cm thickness. Use a Christmas tree cookie cutter or a paring knife to cut the dough into festive tree shapes. These Christmas tree pizza bases add a seasonal touch that’s perfect for the holidays!

Step 5

Place the Christmas Tree pizza bases on a lined baking tray and bake for 10–15 minutes at 200°C until the edges are golden and the dough has set.

Step 6

Remove the Christmas tree pizza bases from the oven and add your desired pizza toppings. Pop the topped pizzas back in the oven for an additional 5–7 minutes or until the cheese melts and toppings are cooked to your liking.

Step 7

Serve on an  Eco Rascals plate  for a kid-friendly presentation, perfect for little hands!

How to Store your Christmas Tree Pizza Bases

These Christmas Tree Pizza Bases can be stored and enjoyed over several days, making them a versatile addition to your holiday meal prep. Once baked, allow the pizza bases to cool completely, then store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator, where they’ll stay fresh for up to three days. For a longer storage option, you can freeze the bases without toppings—just place them in a freezer-safe bag with parchment paper between each tree to prevent sticking. When ready to use, reheat the pizzas in the oven at 200°C for about 5 minutes, then add your toppings and bake briefly until heated through.

This recipe should yield around 10-12 Christmas Tree Pizza Bases, depending on the size of your cookie cutter. Because it uses almond flour and arrowroot flour, it is naturally gluten-free and a great option for kids or adults with gluten sensitivities. This simple, allergy-friendly recipe makes it easier for everyone to enjoy the festive fun, regardless of dietary restrictions!
