We often find ourselves discussing breakfast options with parents looking for nutritious yet appealing choices for their children. We're big fans of breakfast cereal at eco rascals HQ but we are actively trying to change this up a bit!

One of the simplest and most versatile option that often gets overlooked is toast. While the classic peanut butter, jam and honey topping can be enjoyed with ease, there are countless creative and nutrient-packed toppings to explore.

In this post, we're going to help you break out of your routine and discover a world of delicious possibilities that will not only satisfy your child's taste bunds but will also provide essential nutrients for their growing bodies.

 1. Peanut Butter and Banana: Give the classic peanut butter and a new twist by layering it with slices of fresh banana. This timeless pairing offers a balance of protein, healthy fats, and natural sweetness.

2. Pesto and Tomato Salsa: Take your taste buds on a Mediterranean journey with this bruschetta. Spread a thin layer of pesto on your toast and top it with a zesty tomato salsa. This combination not only adds a burst of freshness but also delivers a mix of nutrients.

3. Avocado and Cream Cheese: Combine the velvety richness of avocado with the smooth texture of cream cheese for a heavenly duo. Packed full of healthy fats, vitamins, and a dose of protein.

4. French Toast with Sliced Apple: Transform your morning with a French toast-inspired topping. Dip your toast in a mixture of beaten eggs, cinnamon, and a touch of vanilla extract before toasting. Top it off with thinly sliced apples.

5. Hummus and Flax Seeds: Boost your child's breakfast with this nutritious and energising combination. Spread hummus over your toast and sprinkle it with flax seeds. Hummus provides natural sweetness and potassium, while flax seeds add a dose of omega-3 fatty acids and fiber, making this a perfect power-packed breakfast option.

6. Chocolate Spread and Frozen Berries: Spread a layer of quality chocolate spread on your toast and top it with a handful of frozen berries. The creamy chocolate pairs perfectly with the burst of flavour you get from the berries.

What Bread to Toast?

There is no right or wrong bread type. We like  whole-grain or multigrain breads, which are rich in fibre, vitamins, and minerals, promoting digestive health and sustained energy levels.

We like to explore different bread types like whole wheat, rye, or sourdough.

Offering children a variety of bread types not only expands their palate but also ensures a well-rounded nutritional profile, contributing to their overall growth and well-being.

Make sure that the wholesome and nutritious food you serve is served on wholesome and non-toxic tableware. Our bamboo snail plate  and square plates are perfect for toast and breakfast as they have a large main section and small dipping section for sauces and fruits.

Our bamboo suction plates are suitable for babies and toddlers.
